Why in the HELL should I bail you out
By Ryan Wells
When your friend gets put in jail, it's almost a natural reflex to do your utmost to try and help him or her. You'll want to be the hero of the situation and save the day, and bailing someone out of jail is definitely one way of doing that. However, it's also a huge responsibility, and it helps if you understand the process of bail bonds before you go diving in. Without the proper knowledge of the situation, you could very quickly end up putting down thousands of dollars in a an extremely risky venture, and thousands of people every year regret that decision, don't make yourself one of those people. The first thing you need to do is find a good bail bond agency to handle your problem. Choose one with a good reputation in the area, or even one recommended by the jail. Whichever one you choose, you'll need a great deal of information throughout the process. This could be anything from your personal identification, to your address or even information about the defendant. Most of this information should be fairly simple, but you should make sure you have full identification on you and that you have some details about the case you are dealing with. If you have this information, the process can go extremely smoothly and you won't have to spend hours sitting in the bail bondsman's office. Once all of the details have been sorted out, the agency will ask you for 10% of the full bail amount as a premium. They may also ask for collateral in order to cover their risks. Once you have given them this, they will co-ordinate with the county jail and the inmate release process will be initiated. This shouldn't take too long and in a matter of hours your friend can be with you in the real world. Of course, it's possible that he'll try and run away, at which point you probably want to stop thinking of him as a friend, and start trying to catch him!
