Florida Bail Bonds
By Ryan Wells
Each county in Florida will have its own way of dealing with the bail bond process. The process won’t differ greatly but there will be subtle differences, which is why it is so important to choose a bail bond agency who understands the way that different counties view the process. For example, some counties will spend longer when releasing an inmate, while some will simply get it out of the way. The bail bond agency will not be able to change how the county jail handles the situation, but they will be able to tell you how long they usual take to handle the process. It is not possible to speed up the inmate release process, as some bond agencies may claim, so don’t get drawn into hiring an agency based on the speed of their actions. The bail bond agency will need to know as much information as possible about the defendant who you are looking to post bail for. The agency will be able to use their own databases to find information about defendant, but it is helpful if you supply some relevant information to speed up the process. Becoming the indemnitor (the person who co-signs the bond) is a huge responsibility, so don’t take it lightly. You will become responsible for ensuring that the defendant appears in court when asked, and you need to be able to fully pay the deposit and provide collateral if necessary. As the indemnitor, you will need to provide various forms of identification, and be a responsible member of the community. As long as the bail bond agency feels that it can trust you and the defendant, it will be happy to work with you. Once all the details have been worked out, the agency will post bail and arrange for the release of the inmate. The initial processes shouldn’t take much more than a few hours providing you have sufficient information about the defendant and can provide identification. Once these steps have been taken, it is a simple matter of waiting for the county jail to release the inmate.
