Asphalt Shingle Roofing
By Ryan Wells of First Coast Roof
The majority of homes in the United States are built using asphalt shingles for roofing material; there are a number of advantages for using this material which have made it incredibly popular in recent years. It is by far and away the cheapest way to build a long-last roof that can withstand difficult weather conditions; it is neither incredibly expensive nor ludicrously cheap and allows you to be safe in the knowledge that you are buying good quality for a very reasonable price. A well fitted asphalt shingle roof should last around 30 years and, depending on the conditions it has had to withstand, possibly much longer. There are two main types of asphalt shingles; fibreglass and organic. Fibreglass asphalt shingles are known to be thinner and less heavy than their organic cousin. They are generally considered to be easier to install because of this, and are known to last even longer than normal asphalt shingles. The organic forms are made using felt paper on the back of the asphalt, which increases the weight significantly. The roofing will generally last a long time, but can absorb water over time and become misshapen, significantly reducing its lifespan. Most builders or constructions companies will explain to you that fibreglass asphalt shingle roofing is a much better option than organic; for ease of installation and for durability. After all, a roof will last longer depending on how well it was installed, so making sure it is easy to install will almost certainly add to its durability. When shopping for this type of roofing, you’ll find that there is an unbelievable variation in price, with some seemingly very cheap options. It is best to go for something in the mid range (depending on the climate that you live in) but very important not to go too cheap, since you’ll end up replacing your roof sooner than you think which will cost huge amounts of money. If you consult a professional, they will be able to explain everything you need to know about the different types of roofing and the best solution for your needs.

Great info about something I knew nothing about. So in the case of shingles, organic isn't better? Got it.
